Internet brand Yahoo on Thursday announced that Yahoo India portal is now available in seven Indian languages -- Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi and Gujarati.

It also announced that Yahoo Messenger 8.0 now allows users to chat in nine Indian languages -- Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati.

Managing Director of Yahoo India George Zacharias said the localization of the Yahoo India portal will revolutionize user experience and invite more users to access information on a daily basis for news, reviews and events happening around them.

"Innovation is key driver for our product development, in order to make Yahoo relevant to the next 200 million Indians that will come online in the next few years," Zacharias told reporters.

Good for Yahoo! Here's a posting about languages represented on Indian Curency. Yahoo will need to penetrate the local language if it is going to have a chance to sell services and ads to the people and compete with the local language newspapers.
